My tips for dealing with social phobia in college/school:
-First thing you need to do is go through disability so you can get documentation. This was the biggest thing that helped me out in college. Having that paper alone really took away some of the anxiety
-I highly recommend using ratemyprofessor and pick-a-prof to find good professors. You can also see if your college has a grade distribution for each class. Don't be shy about asking around for good professors.
-Try your best to speak out in class even if its something really small.
Practice as much as you can.
-Talk to your professors before class and ask for a syllabus to know what is expected and tell the professor you have social phobia. If you have documentation you can show the documentation and ask for alternative assignments.
-If you are too shy to talk to professors send them an email asking for a syallabus and if they have speeches in class. Find out about classes before you take them.
-Take online classes
-Look into getting on prescription drugs to help deal with it. (clonazepam helped me alot)
-Join a support group to help deal with social phobia. If you get a big enough group you can practice getting up and making speeches.

This is good advice. I
This is good advice. I definitely wish I had thought to go through disability when I was getting my undergrad and graduate degrees. It just never occurred to me to do that or to speak to my professors about it!
Thanks for providing the support links. :)
Jason, welcome and thank you
Jason, welcome and thank you for sharing to help others here. I'm sure there is someone who struggles with fear in college, and doesn't know what steps to take to receive help. You have opened some avenues here for them to check out and see if they can find the help they need.
I would also suggest, if they can find a Christian support group at the school they are attending. This is a great way to meet others, and to have some caring friends to help with studies as well as fellowship with God.
Take care Jason and May God Bless you.
