I'm new to this site and new--just a few months--to the fact that social anxiety explains so much of my life. It's great to find out what's going on. Well, depressing too!
I'm working on a daily plan of attack. So far my list includes exercise, breathing, meditation, yoga/tai chi, supplements, nutrition, questioning the logic of my fears as they come up, and similarly asking myself often through the day whether a particular decision or action is driven by fear.
I feel positive having a plan. I'm working parts of it. I'm just aware of other parts--like nutrition and exercise. They're hardly perfect. But I got lotsa plans!
My daily minimum right now is 20 minutes of vigorous exercise, supplements and meditation. I'm slowly incorporating the yoga and the questioning/challenging my decisions and actions. My diet is pretty good except after dinner. Gotta watch the wine. And need to switch to green tea instead of the espresso and regular tea. I know that long slow repetitive exercise, like a long walk or bikeride or swim will help alot but I'm not very regular with that yet.
I'm looking forward to reading the other blogs. I'm really interested to see what is working for others.
My biggest problem is visiting the family cabin. It's paralyzing for me to get it together to go up there to take care of it. It sits among many others and I just freeze up. Also it's not the most friendly bunch--lots of gossip and backbiting.
Of course, that's a pretty good description of most small groups, so it's nothing new. If I can learn to cope with the cabin, I truly feel lots of my others fears will just look puny in comparison.
And when I get paralyzed trying to get up there, the rest of my life seems to go on hold. Does that happen to anyone else?
And does anyone else have ADD? I understand that anxiety often goes hand in hand with ADD.
Good luck to us all.
